Rise and Eat

Greetings reader and friend.

Allow me to share an encouraging word with you that has been on my heart for months, yet only now am I able to sit down and put it into written form. I pray that every post I write, would bring great encouragement to you but most importantly- align us to think, hear and see as Jesus does.

We are living in a day and time where we are hearing rumors of nation rising against nation, brother/sister rising against mother/father, and religions against other religions. The issues we hear today aren’t new, they’re simply louder when we lend them an ear. I want to highlight a certain scripture and my hope is that it brings clarity to us all on the latest happenings around the world and direct us to a sound understanding, in order for us to produce fruit rather than promote confusion and fear. Acts 10, read the full chapter. A voice speaks to Peter in a trance- “Rise up, Peter, kill and eat”- Peter see’s how different types of animals are being lowered in front of him containing animals such as dogs, cats, reptiles and other wild beasts. I want to quickly point out on Peters response to the voice that he heard. His response was – “Lord”. Second thing I wanted to point out was that the vision was repeated 3 times. [Anything that is repeated 3 times in scripture means “pay close attention to this!”] Perhaps peter needed to see/hear this vision 3 times in order for this vision to grow from just a vision to a revelation. He saw in the natural, responded in the natural and then received the revelation that God wasn’t referring to animals for him to consume, but the animals symbolizing the nations and races throughout the world (gentiles).

Peoples around the earth are still fighting because they haven’t received that revelation. They only see in the natural. How do we see and walk in the things of the Spirit? We must first be born again( believe in Jesus, repent and turn away from our old ways, following water baptism as a testament of our loyalty and dying to self and being risen with Christ, and be filled with the Holy Spirit (the in-filling of the Holy Ghost that happened on the day of pentecost). Read Romans 10 for further reference.

Our worldview is only as wide as the wisdom we carry. [Read full chapter-1 Peter 5]

I want to also state that the passion for individualism, narcissism, feminism and all the other “isms” aren’t just to promote division, it’s also the very tactic of the enemy to destroy the church since the time Adam and Eve disobeyed God.

Let’s be real- this isn’t a war against politicians that entangled the people with offense, pain, and hate. It’s a spiritual battle against the good and the evil. “We don’t wrestle against flesh and blood, but against the rulers and the authorities of the unseen realm, against powers of the dark world and against spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realm.” Ephesians 6:12

I had a recent situation occur the other day. As some might know already, my family and I have been serving in the nation of Zambia for the last 5 years. My husband was in surgery and I was with our 5 children running errands around town in Lusaka. When I climbed out of my vehicle, I didn’t notice how my phone had slipped off my lap and landed in the bushes by my parked vehicle. We carried on to go grab some lunch before continuing on with our list of errands. Little did I know that someone was watching. I found my phone location using my ipad 30 mins later-the phone was stolen. A long story made shorter, for the next 3 hours, my kids and I went from police station to police station to try to find someone to help assist with confronting the thief. Stressed and wanting to just cry from the pressures, I felt the tugging of the Holy Spirit speak this to me: “Do not lay up treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy and where thieves break in and steal, but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven….for where you treasure is, there your heart will be also.” Matthew 6:19-21

At this point, Im standing at a traffic light to head back from visiting Andrey in the hospital and my daughter who is 3 in the back seat begins to sing “I surrender all, I surrender all, all to thee my blessed Savior…” -my eyes filled with tears immediately because the I was hit with a shaking of heavenly perspective. I was consumed with worry for the last 3 hours over an overpriced phone that is replaceable.

That night a hugged each of my children extra before bed, called my husband and calmly told him the stories of the day as gratitude overwhelmed my heart. My children were safe, I overcame evil with good, my husband was recovering from a needed surgery for his health, and Jesus is King.

To sum up the moral of this entire post is this:

We need to forgive, bless, and allow the Lord to do a work in our hearts. Recognize that the battle we fight isn’t carnal – so a when we respond in carnality, we use up our physical and emotional resources for something that is fought on our knees in prayer and praise. A valuable lesson learned in the physical -(triple check my belongings) and spiritual- (keep my heart aligned with His).

I hope you got something from this because I know I did.
