One Village at a Time

Dearest Partners, Friends, and Family,

This month has flown by! A few of our good friends have given birth, some are now expecting and others have gotten married! We are so grateful for technology that keeps us up to date on what’s happening on the other side of the world. It’s so great to see all of your dear faces and all your growing families. It’s crazy how fast children become in such a short period of time! We are so blessed by your friendship!

Im very excited to be able to update all of you on what’s happening here in Chipata..

We have reached a whole new level of localism here lol, our Nyanja has gotten slightly better and we’ve picked up a slight accent as well as our style of clothing has become a “sha-ten-ge” which is a large piece of material that wrap around a females body, that is paired with a matching (or un-matching top) lol. I’m pretty close to mastering the “twist & twirl” technique!

^^^^twist & tuck^^^^

The beginning of August we were in Livingstone for a short time and made our way to Lusaka to pick up some supplies before heading back home to Chipata. We jumped straight back into ministry and homeschool after arriving and it hasn’t slowed down since. This month Zesco(the power company) implemented an additional 2 hours to power cuts so we are facing 6 hours of no power every day. It’s definitely a high inconvenience to ALL things and at times it feels as if we can’t seem to complete anything that requires battery life. We are looking into purchasing a generator soon so that our refrigerator and deep freezer can keep running to protect our perishables from spoiling (milk has been the first to spoil each time). The past 2 days we have had 12-13 hour power cuts for maintenance purposes. It’s definitely reminding us of how grateful we are for the little things, such as flipping a switch and receiving POWER!

Our family has begun ministry consistently in Chanje (village of Kaninga) every week and have begun to teach the men and women about the Word of God. Most of them don’t know how to read, so we are implementing a few ways on how they can receive the Word, apply it and memorize it. This past Tuesday, we incorporated children’s ministry and it went great! The children are so hungry to learn and memorize SOMETHING…amazing isn’t it? I come home and share this incredible news to them. Some children are hungry to memorize scripture (hoping that it makes our kids hungry as well). If you don’t already do so, follow us on facebook and instagram stories where you can watch for yourself-“yana.gorlachev”. In the near future, we plan to have classes on literacy for adults and children because the children also don’t attend school for it is too far and too expensive.

The small things that light up their faces:)

A little update on our children, they are healthy, strong and miss their cousins and grandparents back in the states! We try to keep a light and positive attitude about it-I think it’s doing them well. We try to connect them with viber or whats app face calls and that feeds their hungry sweet hearts for cousin fellowship. Ugh we love these kiddos, they remind us so much of the Fathers love for us. Thank you to Kingdom Kids for sending them Bibles and sweet letters. Your thoughtfulness is so appreciated by this mama! Thank you to all our family that sends sweet gifts to them for it brings sweet tears and smiles to their faces…”It’s all worth it” we tell them each time. We do this out of love for Jesus…”He is worthy” and their reply? “Yes, He is worthy” as their eyes fill up with tears…next month will be 6 months in Zambia.

ministering in Veronica

Our ministry partners- George and Edna are incredible and their passion for the Lord is so inspiring!. They are both committed to working with us to see the gospel spread in their villages and to the entire eastern provence. Thank you to those of you who have been praying, the Lord has hand selected the right people for this assignment.  Working alongside them for a month now has been such a joy as we watch how they begin to lead people to the truth as they follow the LEADING of the Holy Spirit. Edna and George don’t just translate, they are first and foremost our friends that we pour into and then they deliver the Word when ever its asked of them or they have something on their heart. I like to think of it as if we are walking in the footsteps of Jesus.

Edna and I after a meeting

Fun fact! Edna has been teaching Literacy class to those who have never learned to read or read poorly. What a great asset to bring to our team!

George and Andrey ministering

George is a great worship leader, carries a strong anointing and hunger for the Lord as well as has some mad soccer skills!

The past few weeks we have been working on some home projects in between ministering.. Kids bunk beds materials are currently being collected to begin building soon, as well as some end tables for our bedroom that Andrey is finishing up. Everything is such a process. First off, finding the materials is a whole scavenger hunt and second, the long power cuts make the job that much longer to complete. I’m so proud of Andrey though, he diligently works on what he can do without having to use the saw or sander. Building up our endurance on patience!

Wow, God is so good! We are so blessed by the people beside us and the people that are back home supporting us. It’s not easy, but we know that we have an ARMY that is praying for us, rooting for us, and financially holding us up. Thank you for your generous hearts. All of you who give faithfully each month, you are VITAL for this mission and we believe that your financial commitment to our team doesn’t fall on dry cracked/soil, but on rich/soft soil that produces much fruit for the Kingdom of God. We want to encourage you to come out and see what God is doing here through the labor of your hands. We want to also thank all of our one-time givers- you guys are led by the spirit of God and in the perfect time of need. We love you and bless your homes that you shall never lack a thing, that your barn houses (or nice modern homes) would over flow so that you can continue to be a blessing to fund the Kingdom of God!
